National Women Bowling Writers Announce Paula Carter Spirit Award

In 2001, when WIBC Hall of Fame member Paula Carter spoke at the meeting of the National Women Bowling Writers, she was passionate about all of the inspirational stories waiting to be told of people, especially youth, who had their lives enhanced by getting involved in bowling. She said that she sees them all the time in her bowling centers and the world needs to see bowling through the eyes of those people.

At the conclusion of her presentation she offered to sponsor an award for the best stories - professional and non-professional - each year and the "The Paula Carter Spirit Award" was born.

Stories submitted in existing NWBW Categories, deemed to be "inspirational" accounts of how bowling changed or enhanced a person's life, will be judged separately for the Paula Carter Spirit Award.

There will be a professional and non-professional winner. If there is a winner in each category, a monetary award will be split among the two. If there is only one winner, the entire amount will go to that winner.

The award may not necessarily be given each year and all entries that meet the criteria will be considered.

NWBW urges their members to take advantage of this new opportunity to develop those stories about our bowlers and send them to your news sources for publication.

Entries must be published between November 1, 2004 and October 31, 2005. Deadline for the 2005 NWBW Story & Publication contest is November 15, 2005. Look for information in the NWBW official publication Knows for News
