NWBW Special Award Winners Honored
The National Women Bowling Writers Association will honor four special award recipients at their annual meeting luncheon in Orlando, Florida on April 23, 2006.The awards, named for honored members of NWBW, are presented each year to members who distinguish themselves with their promotion through the field of journalism. Honored for 2006 are Elsi Vacek, Manitowoc, Wisconsin - Mary Jannetto Award for the Outstanding NWBW Member in Promotion of Local Bowling; Hazel McLeary, Victoria, British Columbia, Canado - Jo Ettien Lieber Award for Distinguished Service to the Game of Ten Pins; Bill Vint, East Troy Wisconsin - Alberta E. Crowe Award for Distinguished Service in the Communications Field; and Bobbie Waltman, Lancaster California - The Helen Duval AMF Award for Outstanding Service to the Young American Bowling alliance. NWBW is pleased that
Storm will once again be a luncheon sponsor. Reservations may be made by using the Luncheon Reservation Form says Chairman Jackie Wyckoff. NWBW member cost is $19.00. Non-member guests are welcome for a fee of $30.00. Deadline is March 27, 2006.
The writing and publication award winners will be recognized at the luncheon and Mail-a-Graphic Tournament Chairman Ellen Goss will be announcing results of another successful tournament.

Bill Vint receives NWBW Alberta E. Crowe Award
 Bill Vint has 30 years of professional journalism experience in newspaper and magazine journalism including 10 years as Director of Marketing for the Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour. He co-founded and is general partner for Sleeping Dogs Communications from 1997 to now. Bill contributed his talents for more than one year as Young American Bowling Alliance/USBC Special Projects Manager and was Assistant Sports Editor for Outdoor Writer. As a bowling writer, he was a featured columnist for the Rockford, Illinois Register-Star Sports Department from 1966-1972. Bill was editor and Associate Publisher for Market Communications Inc. (a magazine publishing firm-Milwaukee) from 1972-79. Bill has been the editor of several bowling publications including Windy City Bowling News, Bowling Magazine, American Bowler, and US Bowler.
In 2005, he served as President of the Bowling Writers Association of America. In 2004, he joined YABA on a part-time basis as special project manager and realigned YABA’s fundraising effort. While there he created the “Earl Bear” collector series and designed a unique holiday e-bay fundraising auction that raised $28,000 (largest single fundraiser ever for scholarship programs) in its first year. Bill developed new “Summer Bowling Camps” program to tie bowling to the nation’s network of parks and recreation agencies and developed the foundation for a future sex offender/criminal background check program for bowling volunteers. In 2003, Bill created the ABC Championships Tournament “30 Clean Jackpot” program, won serveral PBA writing/photography competition awards, two ASAE and several APEX awards plus the MId-America Bowling Writers Golden Quill Awards and Bowling Writer Association of America’s Mort Luby Sr. Hall of Fame Award for distinguished service to journalism

Wisconsin's Elsie Vacek receives NWBW Award
 Mary Jannetto Award for Outstanding NWBW Member in Promotion of Local BowlingElsie Vacek was her local Manitowoc, Wisconsin secretary for more than 28 years. During that time period, she spent eight years as editor of the weekly “Bowling Gossip” column and for 16 years, she chartered busues for membership to participate in state tournaments. Elsie’s creative talents were used in promoting tournaments and meetings through delightful banners and posters. She also delivered entry forms to outlying centers and presented bags of “6 kisses” to teams that entered tournaments.
Elsie helped promote tournaments and events in clever ways, even helping on floats that promoted bowling in two parades. She assisted with expo bowling booths at fairgrounds. Elsie initiated age awards e.g. Golden 70 (she’s still bowling at 70), Diamond Rose for 75 years and Bowling Lady for 80 years (a category that garnered free membership for a season of bowling). As a long time NWBW member, Elsie’s talents have been used on the nominating committee to help NWBW have outstanding leaders.
| | Hazel McLeary Receives NWBW Award
 Jo Ettien Lieber Award - Distinguished Service to the Game of Ten Pins Hazel was the Victoria Women’s Bowling Association 1st Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer for a total of six years and Victoria’s Junior Bowling Association Director for 12 years and Victoria’s Young American Bowling Alliance Director for 15 years. She is a Victoria WBA Life Member.Hazel was Bristish Columbia’s WTBA President for 11 years, British Columbia Federation Chariman and Secretary/Treasurer for a total of eight years and British Columbia Tenpins Federation Hall of Fame Chairman for two years. She was WIBC 3rd, 5th and 7th Vice President, Sgt-At-Arms and Director for a total of 30 years. At Bowling Inc., she was Secretary/Treasurer for six years; Canadian Tenpin Federation 2nd Vice President for two years; Canadian Tenpin Federation WIBC Director on board for 30 years; Canadian Tenpin Federation Life Member; Canadian Tenpin Federation Communications Director 20 years to present; Bowling Writers Association of American Vice President and Director for eight years; FIQ Deputy General Secretary for two years; WTBA American Zone Technical Committee Chariman for four years to present; and World Bowling Writers President and American Zone Vice President, currently Vice President for four years.

Californian Bobbie Waltman Receives Helen Duval Award
 In 1962, Bobbie Waltman became an AJBC Certified Coach Instructor, then a YABA Certified Coach and received NBC instruction for advanced coaching. She was a junior league coach from 1962-1992 working with all age-groups including Special Olympics. Bobbie organized a bowling clinic for junior bowlers and was elected to Antelope Valley JBA Board of Directors in 1962. Through the years, she served as director, secretary, secretary/treasurer and President for AVJBA and YABA.Bobbie was a tournament manager for seven years, an audit chairman, head coach at Antelope Valley Bowl and Brunswick Sands bowl in Lancaster, California, coordinating special fundraising activities and was advisor to the local YABA Board. She was a California JBA director on their board being elected in 1975 and while there served as 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Sgt-At-Arms. She helped start the California State JBA Scratch Tournament and served a Tournament Manager. She received the 2003 California State YABA Meritorious Service Award. On the national level, she served as a member of the National(Coca-Cola) Tournament Rules Commmittee and attended the YABA Workshop and Tournament in Tennessee.
